    i’ve wanted to write you
    a love poem
    for what seems like
    much too long now
    & somehow
i kept getting lost behind the lines…
    trying to find innovative ways
to say some of the things
    that i want you to know… like…

    i still vividly recall
    the day you were born…
    sweet angelic perfect
    You.
    i recall i cried
on the day you were born…
    …& so did the sky
    weeping slow wet raindrops
    that did little to dampen
    my excitement at your
    much anticipated arrival…

    i had no idea
on the day you were born
    that you would ultimately be
    a newer version of me…
    talking—
    before you were supposed to
    comprehending—
    before you were expected to
    strong intuitive emotional
    You.

    now as i watch you
    grow&grow…
i wonder if you could ever know
that the best is yet to come…
    …i look into your eyes
    as you stare into mine
& i hope you know that
    i see limitless possibility
shining… from the depths of your
    too-young-to-even-be-a-woman-child
    old soul…

    ...& there’s nothing i wouldn’t do
    to protect you & to
    secure your right to be
    innocent&untainted… by life
…for as long as you can
    because you deserve it
    (all little ones deserve it)

    first born grandbaby…
    …my brother’s daughter

    you couldn’t be more
precious to me if i tried…
    i couldn’t love you harder
    …if i had carried you
    growing inside of me
    for those ten timeless months
    &
when i look into your eyes
    as you stare into mine
    …i can hardly wait
for the years to go by
so that i can write you
    more love poems.

*blinking* I almost want to shed a tear, because this was so beautiful and touching. To watch a child grow & become so much you hope and dream for is such an emotional time. This piece reflects your obvious love & affection, and is such a lovely sentiment. Wonderful read.

i really appreciate you guys taking the time
to help me celebrate my baby's first
    "monumental" bornday anniversary.
she's so funny. when i told her i'd written
her a poem... she just looked at me
& said in a real matter of fact way...
"mmmhmm. so... what it say?"
i'll have to read it to her soon.

    thanks again!

    alwayspeace,
    elayne.
