    Pieces of a Dream

pieces of a dream i thought wasn't mine
glimpses of a future i hoped i'd never find
caught alone in a time when 2 are better than 1
seeking answers for the cause in which the effect is none
i in i not quite the same as you and i and she and he and all those places i maybe could have possibly might be

    pieces of the
    pieces of the
pieces of the dream that never quite came
calling all the stars but not remembering your name
    or is it mine?
lost not trapped in the place where space has no time
paid off but not paid for - no retribution to the eternal earthmother goddess enslaved caught off guard laid low in a borrowed grave

pieces of the dream martin didn't sleep
but mohammed brooded on a change we couldn't keep
trapped between the beats of one heart keeping time to one hand clapping out of sync
no rhythm to dumb to think i'd be caught in the
pieces of a dream that really wasn't mine
glimpsing a future i never hoped to find

spitting the thing i know is not poetry
the aching burning seeking yearning for the truth found in duality
not here nor there but who can riddle me this riddle
where is the place where you and i meet not clash in the middle
of a destiny not known but found
invisible like the taste of the sound of true love's first kiss
the virgin's first brush with bliss
imprisoned impaled by the pieces of the dream i thought wasn't mine
glimpsing a future i hoped i'd never find

squeezing blood from a turnip stretching the ridges off a dime
looking through alice's window like the glove on mime's
left hand's fingers while the hope of you yet lingers in
the scent of your oil sheen on my pillow
while i weep beneath the willow on babylon's banks
the river jordan ain't flowing and ain't lord i still got one more river to cross
no bridge to hide the demons of what i once had but lost
    in the pieces of a
    pieces of a
pieces of a dream i thought wasn't mine
