i reach for my piece
of Heaven
squeezing ‘til it surrounds me
compensating for the absence
of those i’ve loved and lost
but remember well
Lord knows i’m crying
distressed because i see
our sacred unity
dying a slow death
exhaling ragged breaths
in the night
bridges being burned
stones being left unturned
how can you turn your back to me
failing to exalt the memory
of those who strove to set us free
but now the light has dawned
and we must re-learn to rejoice
and gather together in the name
of that Heavenly Voice
with the angels watching over me
let me be the first to stand
let me offer you my hand
come and take a walk with me
help me see what i need to see
know that i see your pain
know that if i could
your hurt would end
and your tears would dry
won’t you let me try?
for this day may be the end
the Last of Lasts
the exhaustion of Grace
grab your piece of Heaven
hold on and let it wrap
you tight
smile through your tears
and fears
push back doubt and
inconsistency
and make everyday a lasting
memory
for The Lord shall keep us
in His Hand
so long as we take that stand
and let there be
no more petty nitpicking differences
between you and me
allow me to caress your face
and show you the love
that you have shown me
we must re-learn to rejoice
in the name of that Heavenly Voice
celebrate the life that we have
before we have this life no more
i can see you in my piece
of Heaven
as it’s wrapped tightly around me
tell me that i’m not wrong
tell me that i see
the love that i should see…..
