Something which has fascinated me since first hearing is the "one reggae, two reggae, three reggae four" lyrics to Peter Tosh's first lead vocal with the Wailers "Hoot Nanny Hoot" which the liner notes to "Peter Tosh: The Toughest" compliation dates to "late 1964". What I find confusing is that the term reggae seems to often be ascribed to Toots and the Maytals "do the reggay" from 1968. Is it simply that Toots was the first to combine the word with the beat or is this another example of Peter Tosh's contributions to Jamaican music being ignored.
