Black Christians : Personal Responsibility as Christians

...

Based on these historical facts, I do believe that control over resources is possible, that being prosperous is possible in all life areas - even with bigotry all around us. White Supremacy is simply an idea, like the idea of losing; one that we ourselves do not have to accept as a dominating idea.

What are your thoughts?

In one of the Bible classes at my church, we had a series on "Strongholds" in a Christian's life and walk. Now, this series was discussing the "spirits" and "forces" of satan which attack Christians to get us back into his fold. ---And, even though these "principalities" do exist and are very active, the minister taught that satan does not have arbitrary control in our lives. --WE have to help/assist satan in some way for him to gain access to our hearts and minds. --- Therefore, there is no Biblical basis for the oft-heard phrase, "The Devil made me do it."

Now, these same principles are applicable to white supremacy, IMO.

No matter what they may try to do in sabotaging, hindering or harming us, as Christians, we know that we have a "defender" who will fight our battles as we continue to rebuke and bind, pray, read and study His Word for strength and guidance.

I often think of the "conquering" of white supremacy with my oldest sibling as an example....She transitioned from "segregation" to "integration" in her formal education. In high school, (after integration), she was subjected to racism which TRIED to hinder her and her Black peers by giving the Black students books with pages and whole chapters torn out of them. Yet, they were still responsible for doing the work assigned to those books.----But, my sister would get together with some of her friends; and, together, they would compile their books for the MISSING pages/chapters the other might have.

IN SPITE OF this blatant white supremacy, my sister graduated high school with a scholarship for college where she obtained a degree and then went on to work in her chosen field for many years. Today, she has her own business.

So, as a Christian, I know that white supremacy WILL TRY to hinder me; but I also know that I am "an heir to the Kingdom of God."

Psalm 37:
[25] I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Isaiah 54:
[17] No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Prov. 13:
22] A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

2 Cor. 2:
[9] But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Mal. 3:
[10] Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

2 Tim. 1:
[7] For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

John 16:
[33] These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world

Philippians 4:
[13] I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Rom. 8:
[35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
[36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
[37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
[38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
[39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Excellent example! And great scriptural quotes, too.

We do have a bit of an advantage these days should something like that happen. Today there is half.com, amazon.com, and other sites where we can get the whole book and other books.

One of the things I did to better my personal stewardship was to buy a stewardship study bible. I find a lot of interesting spiritual, financial, parental, and practical insights from it.

In terms of white supremacy, I don't think of it as an obstacle anymore; only the desperate and futile attempt of ignorant white to hold me back, only to be defeated as I reach my goals as both a christian and especially as a black man. When I realized that God made today's grounds neutral, I have the chance to create or duplicate and/or improve the successes of those before me. Little Haiti (NC) and Black Wall St comes to mind.

This is true; we do indeed have to help or give in to satan's ways for any of what he'll have us do to succeed. Corruption is weak and sin is corruption; it has no power over light and love which is strength the Father gives us. So for it to have any chance, that is, for sin to have in power in our lives, we'd have to let our guard down, our watch slack, or our faith weaken. But to keep strong in faith, to keep watchful, and be on guard for ourselves and, most importantly, each other sin couldn't even be heard of in our midst.:)
