    PAUL DOCTRINES OF SOUL:
    Compares to Plato & Egypt
    By Andre Austin

Thousands of years before Rome and Greece were founded the Egyptians conceived ideas concerning the soul. Plato studied in Egypt for a dozen or so years in Egypt so its not surprising we find similarities of religious ideas.

In Egypt the word for ram was Ba another word for Soul. The Ram was symbolic of Amen, the honorable wind, unseen spirit. Jesus said the spirit was like wind: “Amen, Amen, I say unto this, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he can’t enter into the kingdom of god…the wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound there of, but canst not tell (see) whence it cometh…so is every one born of the spirit” John 3:5-8

The pyramid texts in Egypt also report that “Thy Ba (soul) is a star). Jesus told his disciples that when they go to heaven they will be like Angels (Matthew 22:30). Stars are equated with Angels (Rev 1:20 & Daniel 12:2-4).

    What are Angels

They can be fire (sun) or Wind (like Ram/Ba or spirit) (Hebrews 1:7)
They aren’t male or female according to Paul (Galatians 3:28)
Lucifer was Venus/Morning star until Jesus took it from him (Rev 22:16
Sons of God in Genesis not original applied to Angels but men from Egypt/Ethiopia

Plato in Timaeus reports “As many souls as there are stars, and allotted each soul to a star” clearly comes from his studies in Egypt. Plato goes on and anyone who lived well for his appointed time would return home to his native star and live a happy life”. All those who failed would be turned into woman at his second birth. If they kept on doing wrong changed into an animal. This clearly comes from the Egyptians. Herodotus reports the Egyptians were first to put forward the doctrine of the immortality of the soul and after death the soul enters an animal or that of a man (reincarnation), a theory the Pythagoreans copied (Book 2:123). Plato thought the soul was in existence before the body because it returns home. I only know the bible reports the soul being breathed into man after his body is formed original from the Nile’s mud, clay. The Egyptians believed the souls went to the stars in Orion or the eastern Star.

The Egyptians knew the soul is for heaven and the earth for the body. Paul thought the dead are raised spiritually/Soul 1 Cor 15 44) Why else say flesh and blood can’t enter heaven? (1Cor 15:50). After the soul is given a star its imperisible and death has been overcome in victory (1 Cor 15: 51-54). As you know symbolically death was darkness and Life was light. Jesus comes to get his brides who keep their lamps in light with oil. His bride is ready, his bride is the church which is clothed in white robes of righteoness. The climax of Revelation being the brides/Church is set free from sin, darkness and the second death. Jesus tops all darkness and no lamps or even the sun is needed in heaven because Jesus defeats Sin/darkness for eternity (Rev 22:4-5). I love this storyline of the bible about the bride, and heaven because I can find analogies of it in Plato which is the doctrines of the ancient Egyptian priests.

Plato had seen the soul as a battle between a Lion (Sun) and a dragon (Darkness). The object was to keep man’s soul from being nailed or dragged down by the many bodily appetites of the dragon. He visioned himself as a charioteer pulling two horses rushing in different directions. Samson, a Nazarite like Jesus lost his power in his hair, sun rays that lost his battle with Delilah, moon/darkness. Samson was based on an Egyptian sun god Khonsu and the Egyptian Hercules. I’m told by George G.M. James who wrote “Stolen Legacy” said Plato Winged steeds came from the Egyptian Judgment halls of the double halls of Amen/Truth.

Philosophy is a lover of knowledge/Truth and the those with the inner vision, the sons of light Paul may have confused with sons/suns of god reached true spiritual consciousness of controlling though and behavior James called faith and works. Then and only then could Jesus say to you that the truth will make you free by knowledge of it. In Phaedo Plato reports:

“When soul and body are together, our nature assigns the body to be slave, and to be rules and the soul to be ruler and master“ ( Phaedo 79c-81b)

The lovers of learning understand that philosophy found their soul simply imprisoned in the body ..lovers of learning understand that philosophy taking possession of their soul in this state, gently encourages it and tries to free it (Phaedo 81C-83B). This you might think Jesus origins of truth set you free but it goes way back to an Egyptian proverb stating Maat sets the soul/tongue free. In Egypt your heart is weighed with the tongues to be light as a feather of truth. The tree of life its fruits was the heart and the leaf its tongue and it offered in Egypt eternal life. You can see the analogies of heart/Tongue trees and heart in Jesus statement in Matthew 12:33-37 being lifted from Egyptian philosophy.

    Notes:
In Book Ten of the Republic Some Souls drink water of forgetfulness and go upwards like shooting stars in victory they win the prize of eternal life. The just are on the right side and unjust to the left. Revelations talks about the same things.

    2. Diogenes Laertius in Lives of Eminent Philsophers 2 reports Timaeus stole from Pythagoras, a student of Egyptian priests. So Plato used Egyptian thought and played like it was his own. Laertius accused Plato of stealing too.

    3. Again Timaeus reports on the Fitness of the mind: “We should think of the most authoritative part of our soul as a guardian spirit given by god, living in the summit of the body, which can properly be said to lift us from the earth towards our home in heaven; for we are creatures not of earth but of heaven, where the soul was first born, and our divine part attaches us by the head to heaven…but a man who has given his heart to learning and true wisdom and exercised that part of himself is surely bound, if he attains to truth to have immortal… can’t fail to achieve immortality”. Jesus said the truth sets you (the soul) free. As in Egypt and James the Law/Maat gave you freedom.

4.Now if Jesus body went up to heaven and he came back to talk to Paul only saw a ray of light (Acts 9:3) and Paul says he didn’t confer with flesh and blood with Jesus (Gal 1:16). Even after he died his shadow could go through doors without being open making him separated from his body and spirit. And Paul prefers to be away from the body and with god (2 Cor 5:8). Paul talks about the material body and spiritual body as different with the spiritual body going to heaven (1Cor 15:35-54).Paul didn’t think his body would go to heaven and wanted it burned (1 Cor 13:3).We take on white light/robes as angels not being able to marry absent the flesh (Luke 20:36; John 20:12;Rev 7:13).

    5. Plato said the Pyramid was symbolic of marriage. We know the Egyptians symbolically used the pyramid to launch souls through its shafts to the stars in heaven.

    6. In the NT it appears souls are merged as one with Christ and all celebrate with a wedding banquet. Jesus gets his bride some call church but I think its his own body. Jesus Ka (self) is uniting with his Ba (soul). The Egyptians called the Assumption of Mary, the bride of the Nile of uniting Isis/earth with Osiris/ body of water. Since Jesus is symbolic of Osiris I believe the same application applies. Now the Christians have an Egyptian wedding ceremony to think about since they have been harking and barking about the absent of an Egyptian one.

. “ There were a number of different ancient Egyptian words for freedom…the basic meaning of wind, which apart from its general sense of free movement, was generally associated with the breath of life”-Black Athena writes back by Martin Bernal p.356. Now we know where Paul got the idea of equating Jesus sprit with freedom (2 Cor 4:17) and of Jesus spirit freely going through locked doors which has a precedent in Homer’s Odyssey 4:800 of a phantom spirit going through a locked door.
