Black Poetry : Past Due!

dope!!

I stay
chopping bricks
With the way
I spit
If spirit
comes
in a bag
Then
I must
stay lit
I’m
like a
living experiment

But
not a pig
like guinea
When
i’m in the street
I give
you the skinny
You know
like the street corner
wall murals
That show
the death of many
And when I ask you
is you eatin’
I’m not talking
“Denny’s”

I’m talking
is you handlin’
You know
how this do
When the
rent due
Somebody owe you money
and they need more
so they ask you
And you say
*****
you past due

The streets
yes
you may hear
the stories
But you
ain’t felt the glory
If it wasn’t for the bullets
you might think I’m corny
Until you realize that
it could be
your family mourning

Thinking
you cool
Get caught up
in the
whirlpool
Flushed down the toilet
needing a miracle
And I’m wondering why
it took all that
for you to get

Spiritual?
