    No outward reason
    For her disappearance
She just got up and went
    So, she was classified
    As a runaway

    Shifted from house to house
    Living with grandparents
    Dad walking in and out
    She asked her father
    ‘Please, tell me about mom…”

    And he says
“What do you want to know,
    she blew her brains out…”
    And shrugs
    When there was no response

    Shifted houses again
    Because she needs attention
And gives only what she knows
    Negativity of life
    To everyone

She goes where no one knows
    Leaving no trail to follow
While the police write a report
    Leaving the house
Forgetting to ask for her picture

    She’s not a runaway
    She’s a throwaway
From those she has wronged in her family
To the police who swore to protect her
    To her own father

She calls and says she is traveling
    With a male companion
They are at a bus stop
    She asks the grandparents
    For their social security numbers

    So, her family thinks
    Why find her
No one wants to deal with her
    No one can handle her
She’s on her own, Sweet Sixteen

This piece is so touching yet the reality is bitter sweet.
