I sense snapping jaws of weighted darkness trying, relentlessly, to devour the essence of my fatigued soul. Its wretched arms squeeze, tightly, around my weakened body, longing to gasp my last breath from me. I twist and try to run, but fall deeper into its greedy pits and sink into the belly of its entrapment. Its hands are cold, thieving. Desiring to possess the whole of who I am. Craving all I've ever been. It scratches and claws, trying to pull me down to where it can steal my precious life. I'm almost smothering. I can't recall how to turn the key which will set my soul free. I struggle within and find that little part of me which loosens this vise. I push myself against its will and break through the darkness before me and embrace the glorious light waiting for me on the other side.
