The current National Geographic has a very interesting article about the Phonecians and the Canaanites, the original people of the Levant (from Garza to Turkey).

According to National Geographic Negroes/Blacks were the 'Aboriginal" people of Canaan/Phonecia.

Two chromosome groups found in today's Phonecians show one from Africa (M89) dating back to about 45,000 years ago. The other is M172s dating back to 12,000 years ago. The Black aboriginal inhabitants of North Africa carry the M96 chromosome, which is also the same chromosome found in West Africa.

For many years, historians have pointed out that the original inhabitants of North Africa, the Middle East and Southern Europe were Black Negroids. In fact the first migration of foreign peoples into the Mediterranean and Southern Europe was about 3500 BC when a group called "Kurgans" moved into Southern Europe. About 1700 BC waves of "Aryan-speakers," moved into Southern Europe again. The Blacks were blended in or established separate regions such as Southern France.

Biblical writings also name the Canaanites as Descendants of Ham. Ham the allegorical 'father' of the Black race (although Africans believe Noah was also Black African, since the name "nuach" is African Khemitic for "drinker."

The original people of the Levant were also Negro peoples and the Moabites come to mind. They were well established in Canaan by 4000 BC and were related to the Egyptians.
