Oprah, schoolgirls to testify in school abuse trial

    Oprah Winfrey School

Several schoolgirls allegedly abused at Oprah Winfrey's academy in South Africa and the talk-show host herself are expected to testify at an upcoming trial in Philadelphia.

Winfrey said she had "lost confidence" in headmistress Nomvuyo Mzamane and was "cleaning house from top to bottom." Mzamane says she had trouble finding a new job afterward.

A dorm matron has been charged in South Africa with abusing six students

I appreciate Oprah and what she was trying to do. BUT.... Why did she have to go all the way to south africa to start a school for underpriveledge girls? Are there none here? she will tellher abuse story to any audience. Why not school that demographic? I'm also thinking that she implemented western policies that dont work in that hemisphere. That's why she is having the problems she's having.

    Peace

    Good questions.

I could speculate, however I wonder if anyone had directly asked her those
questions. And if so, how did she respond?

    Great question.....
I would think she did it to bring some kind of reform back into some parts of Africa
maybe she will learn or will she begin something new in this kinda hemisphere.

I do hope the problem be resolved and the School nuture and become a great benefit
to these children, beyond being attacked and or abused.

I still think what she did was wonderful and a blessing

If I recall correctly, back when Oprah announced her intentions to open this school, she was asked, "Why not here (in America)?" To paraphrase her response, she said something to the effect of black kids in America not appreciating the opportunity to be educated, that they would rather have some name brand shoes or some other material item. In other words, school would not be perceived as a luxury or privilege; therefore, why invest in those who would squander the opportunity?

That's essentially the jist of it.

I kinda remember that ...sound like her too something she would say !
thankz for adding that it answers the question .

While most of our children in america do value shoes and materialistic things
over education and schooling, maybe she made the better choice going there.

Oh, okay. I admire her vote of confidence in the black youths of this country.

It is interesting, that most children who know her as the lady who give cars
and stuff away to her live audience, would make these kinds of remarks, but
    okay.

    However,

I hope the situation over in s.afrika has been corrected. No child should be
    abused.
