Since 1619 my people done been in chains,
And it seems until this point in time ish ain't changed
Maybe except quite a few things...okay,okay now we
Can vote and when a white person say the word n!99er
That stuff ain't no joke, but they still put our people
In chains and wave away at the smoke, while they're
Sitting around as if they were the slavemasters once
Again, doing everything to keep us out and never even
Dare to let us step a foot in, And it's like we're always
Finding ourselves at a beginning, searching for an end
Still trying to escape in the woods with dogs after our
Scents, trying to find where the yellow brick road begins
Trying to find a way to Oz, and i'm not talking about the
Jail house where so many of our brothas just happen to be,
Not because they did anything it was just "coincidentially"
They Fit The Description, and the color of their skin gave them
Free Admission, without having pay or chances of ever getting a
Real job again or maybe even making parole
And then white folks have the nerve to get mad at us when we shut them
Out and don't let them in-
"But i mean that was years ago bro your not colored anymore,
    your African-American to me"
But you can't understand what me and my people have been
Through, unless you open your eyes and see what i do, live as
Me and walk in my shoes
The actions of Malcolm, Chavez, and Martin have taken affects
To not all but some, that's why everyday when i wake up
I feel 1619 has begun, all over again, with only a few exceptions
And i'm always, always going to feel the same
As long as there's only mere progression and they keep on
Making my people feel not free, but chained,
And when they decide to stop only then, only
    Will my attitude change!

A strong, potent piece, giving us reason to pause and think. Thank you for this poet.
