I agree that Software Engineering should be taught in public schools starting at about the 4th grade. The sad thing about it though is that programmers themselves are eventually replaced by programs.. it's an industry that feeds on itself.
I started my son with Python. We use the interpreter for exploring Mathematics.
Next step is programming for Android and Iphone.. before we drop down to embedded systems with C and Assembly language.
regarding the economy though..
Unless a comprehensive tax system is created to restore revenue to our cities and state governments, the
decline of local businesses will continue.. and as we all know, in down economies companies with the most cash expand by buying up their distressed competitors. And so we're heading toward even larger walmart-type companies controlling every aspect of the economy.. and that is not good.
