Black Parenting : Once I became a parent I....

When you became a parent what changed about you?

Once I became a parent I inherited acute hearing powers, which has enabled me to hear long distances away. For example, I can hear my daughter whisper.

Once I became a parent I became a better driver. I no longer have road rage.

I realized, it was no longer about me

I couldn't just go cuss the boss out and quit my job

That I had to become the best person I wanted him to be

I also had to raise him to be the best of me

..

I became more of a worry-wort.
I became more forgiving.
I had more purpose to go on.
I realized that there was a part of me walking around somewhere.
I realized it isn't easy being a parent. It's more challenging, but rewarding.
I found out that I'm that parent who stands in front of other parents at school concerts and takes pictures and screams the loudest during school games for my kid.
I became more of a "kid-person".
I was willing to now do things I never did, like have tea-parties and play with Barbies. *shudders*:em16:

I became more right winged about anything that could harm children. ( Especially, bad parents )

Reaqcuainted myself with my love for cartoons

Realized why my mom did certain things I hated

Blessed her for doing certain things I loved, when I found out how expensive they were

Realized what a sacrifice it took for her to do anything out doors with us, when she was deathly afraid of anything bug

Because of her, I didn't infect my son with any of my psychosis or phobias

Went without so he could have

I love it!

Yup...I as well.

I became closer to my mother as well.

I also grew to appreciate way more the things she did...and it opened my eyes to the things I took for granted as far as my parent's love.

I also learned how to give the "I'ma whoop your behind if you do..." look. LOL
