On the subject of depression

Depression;
have you ever made his acquaintance?

Have you ever felt alone
As though you had no one,
Even though you had many?

Do you ever feel insignificant,
unloved,
though cherished by plenty?

Have you ever felt this gaping hole inside of you
that expels all good feeling,
leaving you empty,
Reaching,
Pleading,
for something-
Something you can't identify.

You try to cry
but you can't.
Silent screams go off;
Sirens erupt in your head.
Screeching deafening, piercing.
Your soul pulsates,
and then finally it explodes.
Leaving you alive,
Breathing, speaking, eating,
But so dead inside.

Depression;
Do you know him?
