    IM standing on a stage....

Lights dim but bright enough to see the crowd around me
I hear whispers and coughs in this room around me
But I cant see the faces of my audience or their nationality
Not that what they are or who they believe themselves to be matters in reality

I mean, "to be or not to be," That is the question! "Right?"
I mean dam they say it's not where your from but it's where your at! "Right?"
naw, come on now is all this BS true?
does the color of my skin make me better or any less than you?
Hell I put my paints on just like u do in the morning, Evening or Night
What? Just because I tend to say "Yo" and U say "Dude" makes you the one who's right?
Now of any stereo type I don't eat or feed the hype
I don't believe everything I read or see because IM just the do me type
they called Latino's the low class blacks a few years back
and I remember when a china man wouldn't spend a dime to place his shops in our area map
Hell I still stand on a corner without a Cab stopping for my fare
Truth be told I know that would never happen if a white man was there!
China man remember when you were slaves and we shared the same cry
Now u in my neighborhood yelling "Hurry Up N Buy"
White man were slaves too, but they act like that Ish never happened
Indentured slaves receiving the same whipping and slapping
All this trash about the color of skin
all this trash about what race will win
all this trash about who was the 1st
But it aint enough love out here to quench my thirst?
There ain't enough respect just love's reverse!
Children being taught there is no value in life
no wonder a 12 year old can kill a 7 year old over a bike!

IM standing on this stage and the eyes keep looking even deeper
Whispers grow louder "who's that the teacher?"
I hear cries and moans from the women in the crowd
i hear another voice on the stage saying "He was a good child"
I'm having flash backs of events i don't remember that happned
Memories of things I thought that would never happen!
But IM questioning you again does the color of my skin make any less of a man?
I guess you think you already know who I am!
Movies, TV and books have you thinking you know my every plan
Your mind is not even free because of this racial dam!
I have a strike against me even in the eyes of my own clan
See that was the Jim crow law that made good by the man!
now the eyes are focused on the Arabian race
    Every Urban turban
911 has us question every red dot face!

See IM standing on this stage and the lights grow darker by the seconds
the whispers i heard now turn into blessings
Every voice sounds sad and any other sounds mad.
the speakers voice I heard is reflecting on a journey i had
i was driving one night to see an old friend or two
I was in a small town when my left tire blew!
i was changing my tire listening to 99 problems by Jigga
that's when two trucks pulled up and I heard that term "[email protected]!
10 red necks came jumping out
I guess I traveled a little further than I figured down south!
i was beaten and hung from the tallest oak tree
Not because of something I did or shouldn't be
It didn't matter that i had a bachelor and working on my masters degree
it didn't matter if my 3 children would cry 4 me
it didn't matter if I had white friends that respected me
because i was just some dumb *** [email protected] in the devil country

i am now realizing what's going on around me
I was not standing on the stage being a Mc
I was laying in a coffin because hate claimed me!

Whoa! Brother Python, this is a slam joint right here. I could picture the stage, the crowd, your voice elevating as the words took over. Bravo, Poet.

Oh my brother...this touched me deeply
seeing through the eyes of a brother
is always full of questions, pain and
introspection and as a sister...I feel you
    we see the same things...

I could hear you in my head reading this piece...
maybe the next time I'm on the mic
    you'll read it for me...

    Powerful ending
    Feeling this...
