While I think Old Skool music offers more diversity, and gave artists more time to nurture their sound (versus looking for the next big thing every few months) - new skool R&B has a lot to offer fans.

I think new skool artists that use old skool mentality have the greatest chance of survival and some of those artists include:

    Mary J. Blige
    D'Angelo
    Brian McKnight

This is by no means a comprehensive list, just a few of the artists who seem dedicated to honing their sound versus jumping on the next new sound or style.

Old skool BDP, Rakim, PE, Parliament/Funkadelic and many more. Lyriacism with messages and even some of the best dance jams are blasts from the past like Zapp's More Bounce.

Many new jacks like P.Diddy are still hijacking old skool beats cuz they got that flava which can be imitated but few can duplicate it. Real SOUL music performed by REAL Bands like the Gap, Lakeside, Ohio Players, Kool and the Gang, instead of rappers lip synching over a DAT.

tru indeed Ole skol beats had massive structure to it
while New skol use it more and more revised and jumbled up
even Rap from the days of Ole skol was hot like Kool Mo' Dee
and many others today music has lost the true beat and lyrical
blast while this what people listen to and have became tame by
if ole skol could do a play back surely many Music lovers would switch
    over to ole skol ....

    I'm a late 60 & 70's Man ole skoler to my Heart .................................

I agree with you concerning the loss of the "lyrical blast" but as far as the Beats are concerned, hip hop is more diverse and technology has advanced since the days of the Roland 707, 808 and the SP12.
