    Dearest to the boy, once
    was a friend he'd found,
    a little white pillow,
    of cotton and down.

    His troubled little mind,
    Found friendship and more,
    He held it so tightly,
    Letting heartaches pour.

When life had torn him down,
    he'd call Ol' Flunky,
    soft reassurances,
    he found most comfy.

    As many years of pain,
    flowed from the young lad,
    old age finally had claimed,
    the best friend he had.

    He wouldn't let his mother,
    throw that old pillow,
so she sewed on a case,
    that would hide the yellow.

    He couldn't find comfort,
    that it had before,
    it just didn't feel,
    like his Flunky anymore.

    He ripped off the new,
    and smiled at the old,
    his dirty old pillow,
    again soft to hold.

    Then his mothers impatience,
    met a final stand,
    she threw that old pillow,
    in the garbage can.

In the yard with a friend,
    at a game of ball,
    thrown too hard and far,
in the shrubs it would fall.

    Distracted from his search,
    it had caught his eye,
    almost as if he'd heard,
    his Ol' Flunky cry.

    Only an edge held up,
    in a desperate wave,
    it was drowning in trash,
    begging to be saved.

    He picked up Ol' Flunky,
    and wiped off the dirt,
    in confused disbelief,
    with anger and hurt.

    As he rescued his friend,
    he felt great relief,
    glad he was there,
    in the moment of grief.

    Flunky had given him,
    reasons to go on,
and for years he had found,
    some strength in that bond.

    Protecting Ol' Flunky,
    in his caring hold,
    he quietly hid it,
    under blanketed fold.

But his mother did find it,
    and frowned with dismay,
    she decided to wait,
    until the next day.

    He saw a new pillow,
    where Flunky belonged,
    couldn't save his friend,
    Ol' Flunky was gone.

    The trashman had come,
    while he was in school,
    now his buddy he'd lost,
    they both had been fooled.

    The new pillow he swapped,
for an old piece of foam,
    those memories he carried,
    until he was grown.

    He'd never found comfort,
quite the same where he lay,
a grown man, I still long,
    for Ol' Flunky today.

Just waxing sentimental tonight, having a hard time sleeping......

    Thanks for the words...

Always good to get back around to destee's place, it's here whenever I need it.

Strangely enough I can't seem to connect to this site from home lately however, have to use a proxy. Hope that fixes itself....

    Anyway, thanks all, keep flowing.
