We are good upstanding citizens
Sometimes paying taxes
Volunteering for the less fortunate
We are caring people
Doing our best to serve mankind

We hold jobs
Help our neighbors
Serve on boards
Stand in pulpits
We sometimes look like everyone else

Many call us their friends
Would vote us citizen of the year
Flaws could only be seen if you look beyond cover
Open closets, unlock basements
Or just walk into our living rooms

We hide the dumb stuff
Things that would make you turn away
Like things done to our children, neighbors and strangers
We have a need to be admired for our strengths
Believe me we do have many and the reason you like us

Our stories are simple and complex
Sometimes we were victims
Other times we have a warped sense of reality
Our urges are out of wack and we just never sought help
Before the first victim or after and wonder if there is a cure

You see it is addiction and fiction and abuse of power
The list is long of the things we endeavored to change
Instead we fed the beast of our lust and broken needs
Making right and wrong fall off the scale
Feeding addictions plenty and wearing the mask

You see we are really good guys … You can tell by all our outstanding deeds
If you would take the time to stop listening to the testimony of our children
Realize the good we also did for those we abducted or slaughtered
Even you would begin to wonder what is right and what is wrong
It is at those times all of us ask you to remember forgiveness and the things programmed
