As I Take Each Step

Humph, nana could cuss you
with her eyes,
and make you repent
untold lies.

I Feel All of You Walking

My aunt lost two
of her own,
so she protected the rest of
her family, to the bone.

Walking With Me

Mom lived life hard,
and loved us even harder still,
gold was surrounding her
iron clad will.

Walking In My Footsteps

Nana thought all children were
unique, just special.
Probably why she became mother
of that church called New Bethel.

Walking In My Shoes

Life wore her out,
but my aunt also wore out life.
She told you where she stood,
amid all the strife.

Walking In My Moccasins

Wished mom could've lived
her own life more,
such wit, such magic,
such wisdom she bore.

Strong women, determined.
Walk with me
Walk within me
so I can possibly be
half the essence
of womanhood you bestowed
upon me....
