you were there for me on hot summer afternoons, after work
tiny little unassuming coffee shop on the corner of P and 23rd...
i would go sit at your bar and drink iced mochas by the glass
    for free
because the cashier wouldn't let me
    pay
we'd talk and talk and i'd share my
    poetry and short stories...

we would come to you on friday nights
just to get away and unwind
at the end of the week and drink
    hot coffee creations
    sometimes have a pastry
and my eyes would follow a certain
    cashier/part owner
    (he was so cute)
he and i started hanging out because of you...

i read at my first poetry reading in
    your upstairs room
    nervous, needing a smoke
bearing my soul to the hungry crowd...

    you were a great experience
    i'll never forget you
    and i miss you...
