    Ode/Owed To Renee’

    I remember she was seven
an on loan Angel from heaven
    her smile illuminated rooms
But no way could we have known
    that before she was full-grown
her light would brighten only her tomb

    No way to predict fate
who at the age of eight
had dealt a hand impossible to play
for she was raped and molested
by an uncle who confessed it
for six straight months, every other day

    Still Renee’ was resilient
    her eyes flashed genius brilliant
by ten, seen way more than they should
She’d known a dozen men by twelve
    which prompted her to delve
way down past the underside of good

She smoked and drank and drugged
and robbed and stole and thugged
at fifteen spent her last day in school
Now I know you judgmental bigots
    sipping from self righteous spigots
laugh and call that child a fool

    But this ode to Renee’
    is owed to Renee’
She bore the cross of all us saints and sinners
    The footstool of the perverted
    The ridicule of the converted
Playing a game with far to few winners

    At 16 she’d tasted heroin
cause something about the marrow in
her bones caused them to ache
    So every chance she got
she’d fill her veins with rot
perchance to ease her pain and her heartache

You see at 8 she had contracted
    that virus which abstracted
then taken at least 8 more years to bloom
    while her depraved uncle Chester
    the scumbag child molester
he died 3 years after sealing this child’s doom

    So this ode to Renee’
    is owed to Renee’
she wore our scars and lived our deepest fears
    A scapegoat for the masses
    passing disagreeable gases
while crying all our undesirable tears

Yes we owe it to Renee’
    to somehow, somewhere, some way
repay her for the hand she was given
and find a way to compensate
for all the scorn and all the hate
encountered each day that she’d risen

For all the pain that she suffered
    and the agony she buffered
    in search of society’s approval
For all the back rooms where she stayed
and all the alleys where she laid
    waiting for the garbage removal

So, this poem is a form of penance
while we are serving the sentence
for the crime of murdering Renee’
and I implore each one of you
to pray for her and us too
and pray that prayer every single day
for it is truly owed to Renee

For all the Renee's out there...
    I wish this wasn't a true story...

Whew....This poem causes all to pause in the audacity and shame of it all, and also for your creative way of presenting this. Flow on poet.

Oh my. This made my heart swell. It has also occurred to me that the "uncles" of the world take lives with the evil they do. I have got lost in those thoughts before.

7th, you are an amazing poet. I respect you so much for this piece. Very glad you came to our family.

Gempis, thank you for the wonderful warm comments.

I on several levels wish there was no material for this kind of poetic foray but alas, there are far too many Chester's in the world...
