Is there anyone that can tell me where to find information on Obeah online? Anything about Obeah in Jamaica would be a lot of help.

Is Jamaican obeah the same as Akan obeah in Ghana?

    Peace Oba,

From my limited understanding of Jamaica and Obeah, I believe the Jamaican branch sprung from the Akan. The Akan people were a dominant ethnic group sent to Jamaica. Evidence of this is inherent in the folklore of Jamaica. Jamaican Obeah could be very similar to the other diasporic traditions, in that it could be a mixture of various African and native elements. Haitian Vodou has its roots in ancient Dahomey, however, there are Nago (Yoruba), Kongo and Taino (Amerindian) elements to it. This could, also, be the case with Obeah - having many different elements incorporated within it, but its root sprang from the Akan foundation.

    Ase!
