Obama signs bill reducing cocaine sentencing gap
    By the CNN Wire Staff
    August 3, 2010 4:45 p.m. EDT

"Washington (CNN) -- President Obama signed a bill Tuesday reducing the disparity in penalties for the use of crack and powder cocaine, according to the White House.

The enactment of the law seals a hard-fought victory for civil rights activists who have argued for years that the differing punishments unfairly target African-Americans.

The Fair Sentencing Act repeals a five-year mandatory sentence for first time offenders, and for repeat offenders with less than 28 grams of crack cocaine. The old law set the mandatory sentence for conviction at five grams.

African-Americans have been far more likely than whites and Hispanics to be convicted for -- and receive the harsher penalties associated with -- possession of crack cocaine, according to government statistics. White and Hispanic defendants are more frequently charged with possession of powder cocaine...."

About time they changed this disparity. I saw on the History Channel today, most of our drug laws were based on the white fears that blacks or other minorities would do crazy things to them under the influence.

Hopefully, sooner and not later, we can get this disparity from a 18-to-1, to a
    1-to-1.

    peace

That law was put into play the day after the Million Man March. Farrakhan had reached out to all of the leaders for help with the march and most responded except Jesse Jackson. Jesse did not respond until about 3 weeks before the March took place.

As the leaders spoke at the march no one spoke about this law because no one knew about it, that is until Jesse Jackson spoke. He is the only one who spoke about the new law because he is the only one that knew. Now had he responded to Farrakhan initially all of the leaders could have been prepared to speak on the new law and how outrageous it was and could have put pressure on the law makers to change it then. But, since Jesse kept it to himself, or was told to.....here we are!

If one understandsthe strategies of White Supremacy

One will understand that this comes at the end of the crack epidemic that destroyed hundreds of thousands of Black families, about the same number of brain damaged children born to the mothers and almost the same number of Black folks from 8 to 80 dead from the gun violence of that time

It was a strategy for a time

who knows what the next thing will be?
    heroin from Afghanistan, and Mexico
or a new product made from it?

    There's more than 1 way to cage a N-gg-r

This is totally and completely irrelevent. They will simply pass other laws that target black men and continually convince black women that u are a dying species and that it is time for her to move on. Itll likely come to child support cases. They will simply allow more women access to food stamps as they are already doing , next keep brothers out work so he cant pay the debt and lock u up when it get s over a thousand. When a women signs up for food assistance, her child's father becomes a criminal. What better way to criminalize an entire ethnic gender. They will not step up off black men until we stop actin like a buncha cowards and buss'em in the heads. Plain and simple
