The Obama administration says if a district court finds the New York Police Department’s stop-and-frisk policy is unconstitutional, an independent monitor should be appointed to oversee any fix ordered by the court.
The administration expressed no opinion on the constitutionality of the program itself, in a statement of interest submitted Wednesday in the name of Justice Department Civil Rights Division chief Thomas Perez and other DOJ officials (posted here).
Though Attorney General Eric Holder has repeatedly said the administration is tracking the litigation, the statement marked the first official intervention in the case by the Justice Department....

In other words, they plan on doing just as much as they have always done.
Doesn't take much to read between their lines.

Finally! Obama's doing something for.... gasp!.... black folk!

It is a testament to the power of the Internet and folks on MBs who castigate politicos (like Obama) when they DON'T do the right thing! And if you don't believe that, then you don't believe "the squeaky wheel gets the grease!"

That the NYPD is arguing smack, proves it won't be a cut and dry, business as usual (trashing black men's constitutional rights), foregone ruling. That maybe, just maybe, the justices will "do the right thing" and put a halt to the stop & frisk black and Latino men ONLY epidemic in NYC (In the last decade, 10 MILLION black and Latino men have been 'stopped and frisked'.... because they walked out of their apt building, or got out of their car (sarcastic).

That the Obama administration is arguing through the DOJ that somebody has to have oversight of the NYPD, to make sure they don't continue with their unconstitutional behavior after the ruling, is a total departure from his "neglect" of issues that affect black people. For this, even if "tepid" gesture (that could prove momentous), I give the prez a "thumbs up!"
