“Now, America has been involved in Africa for decades,” Obama said as he warmed to his subject. “But we are moving beyond the simple provision of assistance, foreign aid, to a new model of partnership between America and Africa—a partnership of equals that focuses on your capacity to solve problems and your capacity to grow. Our efforts focus on three areas that shape our lives: opportunity, democracy and peace.”

“So today, I am proud to announce a new initiative,” he said. “We’ve been dealing with agriculture; we’ve been dealing with health. Now we’re going to talk about power—Power Africa—a new initiative that will double access to power in sub-Saharan Africa. Double it.” The response to this commitment was thunderous ovation.
“We’re going to start by investing $7 billion in U.S. government resources,” he continued. “We’re going to partner with the private sector, who themselves have committed more than $9 billion in investment. And in partnership with African nations, we’re going to develop new sources of energy. We’ll reach more households—not just in cities, but in villages and on farms. We’ll expand access for those who live currently off the power grid. And we’ll support clean energy to protect our planet and combat climate change. So a light where currently there is darkness, the energy needed to lift people out of poverty—that’s what opportunity looks like.”

If they don't, China and Al Quada will take over everything. They have been very aggressive there

You dont have to watch an old Kung Fu movie to know that when Chinese one percenters want something, they give you 2 choices, they will buy you out or they will send their debtors to rough you up, till you give up!

    Resources, not necessarily money.

Whomp! There it is! Energy, as in oil.....

Not really.... especially when you're only "supporting" it. And what's being supported? Clean energy to combat climate change.

    Nice words. :news:

I found this part of the article more interesting (most of Obama's speech was just some feel-good stuff):

This is why I refuse to berate or downrate Mugabe. People want to talk about him like he's some dictator (NOT! No "dictator" permits an election to stand where he has to have a RUN OFF with another candidate!) or evil person. And yet, when you see stuff like this, well, only a fool, or political unsophisticate, can't read between the lines.

He gives too much credit to South Africa. But then, if he didn't he'd have to admit that Europe mucked Zimbabwe up, put all kinds of economic sanctions, restricted Mugabe's travel to their nations for summits, conferences, did everything they could (and FAILED!) to destroy him AND his nation after he kicked settler bandit famers off land they stole from Zimbabweans when their kind ruled it. :10500:

"...await refining" means 30% of the world's reserves are RAW, virgin if you will. Much as I distrust.... and dislike China all up in Africa, stealing their own selves but at least leaving the nations with something.... it's always good to have powerful nations who singly, would gobble you up, vying civilly for your resources and affection.
