You'll have to register with the NYT to get this article...

For those of you who don't live here, you can't imagine what a NYCTA strike would do to this city, especially during the holday season. The city would lose like a billion dollars a day in business, much less transit fares... The TWU Local 100 has got to be one of the most powerful unions in America, because they've got so much leverage... The only thing holding them back is the state law the forbids city workers from striking... It came into existence following the TRANSIT STRIKE of 1965, in which the city lost billions and billions of dollars when workers couldn't get to work, and the city lost billions of dollars in commerce... Each day an city employee strikes, he will lose 2 days pay, and could even face jail time... If you are a policemen, firemen, transit worker, or health and hospitals employee, stricter penalties are enforced to keep those agencies from striking...

Well, hope they settle this thing tonight... I need to get back and forth on that A train... It's a long walk from here to Harlem...

    Peace!
    Isaiah

    I hope the workers strike.

Unfortunatley in this society, you need mass carnage in order to get attention to your problems. When they strike their concerns will be heard.

Brother Omowale, my car aint even an option, because it costs so much to park in this town... It costs even more to get a ticket($110.00 for the minor stuff!) Now, a good bike would do me, but the weather here lately has been Chicago-like... I aint tryna ride from Brooklyn uptown to Harlem in these gangsta winds(smile!) Plus, drivers here have a tendency to play rough with biciclists... Yo, gots my sick time, and I'm gone use it!(smile!)

Brother Manasiac, I agree - and so do my brother and sister, who are both T.A. workers... They're a 100% in favor of this strike... Those people who aren't are just haters, who dodn't understand that people have to do what they've got to do to get just what they want...

    Peace!
    Isaiah

I'm in a similar position myself Isaiah. ALthough I live in Newark, I work of board of ed (district 5 in harlem)

let's not even talk about me driving to work, that's not an option.

I hope to hell they don't strike, 'cause if they do, I'll be peddlin' :cardio: from midtown to harlem and back .:run:
