I blame myself for the emptiness now
wasted my best stuff in so arms many
years ago
it's not your fault

Now I only warm our bed
while you secretly wish
I'd quench your fire

I look at you, younger,
because that's the way
it's always been with me

(they are all about your age now)
mature beauty, full of brimming
passion, coming through
with that mellow silver
highlighting your hairline

I smile because you are
still so very sexy
I stiffen in reflex memory
between my thighs

you are the one I chose to
take that walk with
the only one in all my
52 years

I look at you when you're
not looking, with all that
bright expectation in your eyes

and can't believe how much
my heart aches

because I'm bankrupt
I spilled the best of me
so many years ago

and I'm the one to blame
for the emptiness now
