    no rush sunday at all
    by romus

then we will draw slow beautiful circles in the sand
with our toes & watch the colorful boats float
    in the listless rolling bay
the wind will billow up our shirts like
linen curtains reaching across a quiet ornate room
a blue seagull will come & another will go
then again in the elastic wash of sky & seagulls &
spraying pinwheeled sunlight a horn will sound far away
from a vessel beyond the break where the rest of
the wandering world starts & the cooing of the waves
in their calm tearing lulling the world to the
edge of sleep will lay over one another
in an insincere effort to shore
then in the clear vision of the world
we will walk towards the trail leading to the shops
where some man’s back iz turned to us
he will be mounting red hats on wire
a clown will be sitting just after juggling
& one of the merchants will be reading the menu at
the hotdog stand & a crow will call from the telephone
wire fresh from night carrying hiz little portion of ink
the wooden walk will creak slightly
a bottle cap will wink half covered in the sand
your sunglasses will be above your eyes in your hair
the beads & silver will catch our eyes
& my thighs will be eazy from our morning’s loving
of course, it will be sunday
& we will have $50 to spend or keep
or eat with & the breezes peeking out of
the great oblivion of the day like the indefinite eye of a stranger
will play around our legs & i will pluck the small bright flowers
that sing from the gypsy weeds & everything that we come to
will belong to us the shops the sky the merchants
the tall cool here & there afternoon
& drifting through the tall windowpanes of sky &
marbled sun & the quiet vacant colored tile fresco littered
with small lights of the eazy catalina afternoon
matching the even gait of the world
looking west then east across the clear early october
there will be nothing to rush and do
    nothing at all
