I told her of God and she sat
With teeth clenched tight around
Her lips as if trying to hold back
a great cry
life is so much more than
what meets the eye
she told me of times of lying
with her eyes wide shut
wishing she was alone in her bed
but the poor thing
couldn’t even be alone in her head
cause everything she thought
he'd soon decipher and
in order to forget one man,
in order to save herself,
she surrendered her body to all men
turned away from God and
gave her soul to sin
soon after she began chasing
away her sorrows with
cheap bottles of gin
I have no way to save her
but I'll mourn her life with my pen
