No Embrace

We love without holding hands
Sitting together with space between
Talking of life, happiness, peace and
The love we have for each other.

There’s no tension of intimacy
Need for an embrace, hug or kiss
For in due time these things
Will surely come to fruition.

We are learning to love as friends
Not allowing desire to complicate
Our feelings of lust or lost but
Of life and “love living”.

I love her and she…me
But there is no need to express
In the physical, what our minds
Have mastered already.

We are building a foundation
That true communication defines
So that when our emotions arise today
The physical cannot destroy tomorrow

I’ve held her often while across the room
With a look, a smile and subtle gesture
To let her know that even at small distance
She is still too far away from me

But it is equal on both sides for she
Will see me when I can’t see her
And yet I still know that her heart
Is beating in balance to mine

She is the “heart” to my “beat”
As I am the “pulse” to her “racing”
Together we help each other to love
As my “less” supports her “breath”

I see love a different way today
When my love is so great that
I resist an embrace for fear that
The strength of my love would break

Her…
