    Living in this world
    Of no accountability
    And…no peace

    No convictions
    For so many lives
    Now…deceased

The thought in every black man’s mind
    “It could have been me”
    A chalk outline
    Stretched out…in the street

Once, I was in that position
    Ten cop cars…full of police
    On Omaha’s north side
With twenty guns aimed at me

“Reports of gun fire from a car matching yours…”
    Was the excuse they gave
    For the unwarranted stop
    And how they behaved

    When, not three weeks earlier
    During another traffic stop
    A brother was gunned down
    By a racist *** cop

    The community was still angry
In the neighborhood I was in
    And decided they weren’t letting
    That bullshyt happen, again

As I was told to throw the keys out the window
    And exit the car
    Brothers started exiting their homes
Three hundred strong, and growing by far

When they started pushing up on the cops
    Things were tense…for a moment
Cops told me; “get back in your car
    And move it along, then.”

    Living in this world
    Of no accountability
    …No peace

    No convictions
    For so many lives
    Now…deceased

    It could have been me.
On the roll call of deceased
    Another among that number
    No conviction. No peace
