Recent threads have suggested that many people here are not happy with Capitalism.

If this is the case, what alternatives do you suggest?

Is there a current system available to use as an alternative or should we just create a whole new system all together?

If this is indeed the case, why have so many countries(especially African ones) abandoned Socialism?

With regard to afrika, it was abandoned, due to outsiders comming into afrika and disrupting the many afrikan ways of life.

However, what one would call socialism when looking at afrika, I call it communalism. A system by which people received according to their need and the need of the village/nation. While looking at afrika in that respect one must take into account what is wealth and what does it mean. Furthermore, what it means to a particular people and a particular culture.

With regard to south/central america, socialism didn't really get a chance to reach its potential to benefit the people in those regions, thanks to, yet again, outsiders. However the indigenous had societies very similar to those that were in afrika prior to outside interference.

As for capitalism, as it is on paper, isn't, nor wasn't, really given a chance either. For if it was, those major banks would've been allowed to fail. Its a fair to say that socialism bailed out capitalism in that regard.

I tend to think that those who take issue with capitalism, like myself, take issue moreso in what capitalism brings out in people and society, than the system in and of itself.

With that said, capitalism today is the way of the world and I, as many, partake of it.

And while I most certainly have my criticisms of capitalism, it is the capitalist that failed capitalism as did the communist to communism.

No matter what the 'ism' is, as long as the 'ist', which are the few, run the system in interest of the few and not the many, they will all, as evidence can show, errode society.

What outsiders? Socialism, as we know it today, didn't arrive until after colonialism.

The concept, later called socialism, existed in the world long before it had a name. Which is why I refined it by saying communalism.

Regardless to whether you want a completely new economic system or are satisfied with one of the current systems in place, three basic questions have to be answered.

What goods and services should be produced?
How should the goods and services be produced?
For whom should the goods and services be produced?

What are your answers to these questions?
