If you think re-enslavement is something we might have to deal with in the future if we don’t mind out historical p’s and q’s, think again. Slavery is happening right now. According to one news story the state of Washington plans to raise its slave--er--employed prisoner population from 1400 to over 3 thousand by the year 2010. As states across the U.S. (Unspecified Slavery) criminalize victimless acts and the Bush administration labels as terrorist those who speak out against oppression there will be so many of us in prison it won’t even be funny.

Read about the difference between chattel and wage slavery.

Starbucks doesn’t think using wage slaves is inconsistent with heir mission statement

Just like with Shaquanda Cotton, some people might say they don’t care because those people are bad anyway. But these kinds of things always start out with the people society considers undesirable. In the case of prison and crime it’s an open door and any of us can find ourselves placed in that category as what was okay one day is criminalized the next in the name of national security.
