    ACC/BIG TEN Challenge .....

Virginia's upset of No. 13 Minnesota on Monday night altered the entire projection for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. After all, that game was supposed to be a given, the best example of a good Big Ten team taking on a clearly inferior ACC squad at home.

A day later, the tide has changed again. With minimal exception, the Big Ten handled its business Tuesday night, winning four of the five Challenge games, building a 4-2 overall lead and -- again, all of a sudden -- setting itself up for a victory.

No. 21 Illinois 79, North Carolina 67: Before we delve into the hot mess that is North Carolina, let's heap some praise on the Fighting Illini. This is as deep and talented a team as they continue to improve now 7-1 on the season.
No. 2 Ohio State 58, Florida State 44: This was an ugly game -- it's not too often you can shoot 32.2 percent from the field and win -- but it was a good win all the same for Ohio State, Big Ten wins this one..
Northwestern 91, Georgia Tech 71: The Associated Press headline you'll read if you click that link in the score refers to Northwestern as "perfect." It's not much of an exaggeration. The Wildcats shot 64.6 percent from the field and 63.2 percent from beyond the arc. Five players in double figures, another Big Ten win.
Michigan 69, Clemson 61: Don't look now, but these Wolverines are marginally impressive. Considering the context -- this is basically a rebuilding year for John Beilein and company but they win the challenge.
Wake Forest 76, Iowa 73: I'm not sure I've ever seen a more simultaneously ugly and exciting final two minutes of a game than in Wake Forest's three-point win over Iowa. The final two minutes were marked by bad shots, turnovers, long rebounds, more bad shots, and more long rebounds. And then came the king of bad shots: With the game tied at 73 and more than three seconds left on the clock, freshman J.T. Terrell pulled up for an entirely ill-advised 25-foot shot ... that, of course, went in. Iowa turned the ball over on its final possession and that was that. To Terrell's credit, he had been making shots all night. But with that much time left in a tie-game situation, you don't shoot that shot. Unless you're playing in the Wake Forest-Iowa game, I guess. Hey, whatever works. ACC get this one !

Will Wednesday make another twist or stay on course in the final two games of the
    ACC/BIG TEN Challenge continue

[IMG]#3 PITTSBURGH -- Jamie Dixon is closing in on his 200th coaching victory at Pitt. Perhaps by the time he gets to No. 300, the Panthers will have lost another nonconference home game.
Brad Wanamaker had 16 points and 11 assists and No. 3 Pittsburgh used its man-to-man defense and patient offense to slow down Rider's 3-point shooters during an 87-68 victory on Saturday.

Ashton Gibbs also scored 16 points and Dante Taylor added 12 to help the Panthers win their 53rd consecutive nonconference home game and their 102nd in 103 games.

They are 81-1 against non-Big East opponents at the Petersen Events Center, where they are 138-11 overall -- a statistic that remained on the scoreboard 40 minutes after the game ended.

Pitt, outscoring its home-court opponents by nearly 27 points a game, is 9-0 for the eighth time in nine seasons.
[IMG]No. 21 Illinois relies on 3-pointers to beat No. 24 Gonzaga
Illinois coach Bruce Weber was looking for a little inspiration, so he talked to his team about a trip to Michigan State during the 2004-05 season.

"We scored 12 straight possessions," Weber recalled of that day. "People called it 'The Clinic' and people still talk about that, how efficient we were. Today it wasn't quite that good but it was sure a good run of good basketball."

The Illini (No. 21 ESPN/USA Today, No. 20 AP) used a big second-half run fueled by 3-pointers to blow past Gonzaga (No. 24 ESPN/USA Today) on Saturday, 73-61. D.J. Richardson and Mike Tisdale each scored 15 points, and Demetri McCamey had 11 points and seven assists for the Illini.

"When the game is going on you don't realize it, but they were pretty open 3s," said Weber, whose team scored 10 of its first 11 baskets from beyond the arc in the second half. "We have good shooters if we pick and choose when we shoot them -- if they're open shots."

Tisdale started the surge with a pair of 3-pointers that broke open a 34-28 game, and the Illini (8-1) proceeded to use a 14-3 run to take a 62-44 advantage.

Illinois finished 52 percent from beyond the arc for the game.

The Illini defense also was able to frustrate the Gonzaga offense, holding Stephen Gray to just 2 points until midway through the second half. A year ago, Gray had 20 points in an 85-83 overtime victory over Illinois in Chicago.

Robert Sacre provided the only scoring threat for the Bulldogs (4-3) during the Illini's big second-half run. He scored nine straight points to help Gonzaga stay in the game, and finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs.

"We had four guys on the same page and one guy or two that wasn't on the same page," Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. "Then they got going and got on a roll and we didn't adjust."

Mike Davis scored in the lane to break a streak of six straight 3-pointers and give the Illini a 67-47 edge. Gonzaga answered with a 10-0 run, but Richardson scored on a floater in the lane and Illinois was able to grind out the remaining minutes for the victory. They should move up in the polls

[IMG]Nolan Smith leads Duke past Butler in rematch of national championship
Top Rank #1 DUKE beat Butler 82-70, Krzyzewski's 876th win in his 36th season, the same as "The Baron" had in 41 seasons with the Wildcats.
The last two times Duke beat Butler, Mike Krzyzewski moved into a tie with one of college basketball's legendary names.

Last April, the Blue Devils' 61-59 victory in one of the best NCAA championship games ever gave Coach K four national titles, the same as Adolph Rupp managed at Kentucky. They will be hard to beat and looking to return for another title, can they do it again ???
    [IMG]#6 MICHIGAN STATE
As his team slogs through a brutal early schedule, the Michigan State coach is well aware of how much fatigue the sixth-ranked Spartans are fighting. So although they were far from perfect in a 74-39 win over Bowling Green on Saturday, Izzo was willing to overlook their problems.

"I might be the dumbest scheduler in America," Izzo said. "My team is tired."

Fresh off a five-point loss at Duke on Wednesday, the Spartans (6-2) didn't look sharp early against Bowling Green. They turned the ball over 12 times in the first half, and when the Falcons (1-7) scored the first four points of the second, Michigan State clinged to a 25-23 lead.

Durrell Summers and Korie Lucious responded with back-to-back 3-pointers and Draymond Green added a putback to push Michigan State's lead into double digits. Keith Appling then added two 3-pointers, Summers made another and Lucious scored from inside the arc for a 46-24 advantage.

Just like that, a close game had become a blowout, and the Spartans could start looking ahead to their next big task -- a trip to New York to play No. 8 Syracuse on Tuesday night.
[IMG]E'Twaun Moore, JaJuan Johnson lead Purdue past Alabama #18 PURDUE
took care of business and trash bama,Alabama tried to take JaJuan Johnson out of Purdue's offense. That just gave E'Twaun Moore an opportunity.

He scored 23 points and made 5 of 10 3-pointers to help Purdue (No. 18 ESPN/USA Today, No. 22 AP) beat Alabama 66-47 on Saturday.

Moore showed off his all-around game with nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

"He's complete," Alabama coach Anthony Grant said. "He's like a silent assassin out there. There's so many things that he does for his team. Some of it is loud, like his 3s were loud, and some of it is just a slow poison."

Johnson, a center, still scored 17 points for the Boilermakers (7-1), but Moore helped provide an element Grant didn't account for. The Boilermakers made 9 of 24 3-pointers, while Alabama missed all nine of its 3-point tries.
[IMG] UnRanked North Carolina continue to rise back to the rankings after starting the season at #8 soon fell out after a couple losts,
Tyler Zeller's hot hand fuels North Carolina's home win over #11 Kentucky
Tyler Zeller scored in the paint and buried the free throws North Carolina desperately needed. John Henson locked down on Kentucky's top scorer. Larry Drew II even added a strong second half that helped his team hang in until the final horn.

For an afternoon, the Tar Heels showed some fight that has been missing around Chapel Hill for the better part of a year -- especially against a marquee opponent like the Wildcats
[IMG](#7) Syracuse 8-0 start showing why they belong and passing all stops are they as good as it say on paper !?
    [IMG](#15) Memphis 6-0 still rolling on !
