Black Entertainment : #NatTurner: 'Birth of a Nation' is more than just a film

I agree with Snoop. Not his language.
Why so many slave movies?
White people love all this slave porn. Watching Blacks beaten, rapped, sold from their families. The unimaginable, that whites view and believe that was what slavery was. Like a movie. Slave movies only confirm, for whites, their superiority.
Personally, I don't believe a movie can be made showing the heartless. evil white man/slave owners for who he is. Showing the horrors of slavery.
I've never went to the movies to watch a slave story. I rented 12 years a slave and was disgusted.

I'd like to see a movie about the Reconstruction era. Which showed all white people bigotry. Those poor whites that came out as slavery ended.
The only thing they owned was their superiority over former slaves.
How poor whites did not want free slaves to have welfare or education.
The same political issues of today.

A movie about how slave owners prepared for the ending of slavery, by creating other slave like jobs to hide their slaves underground (jobs).
A movie that puts the focus on evil white people. Their meetings about how to treat and not treat slaves, how to get the message out to other whites about the status of slavery, using "runners".

Slave movies are for white people entertainment.
I don't understand Black's enthusiasm over another slave movie.

Who among us did not already know the story of Nat Turner?

(Slavery never ended) The beginning of prison slavery.

Yes, we know the story of Nat Turner, but have yet to see it on screen without controversy stealing the terror Nat brought to White folk like few others did. And for this reason, Snoop and the others should be applauding this movie, not placing it in the same category as the other slave movies.

We also know this, White folk don't want us to see this movie and appreciate it since it struck fear in their souls then, and has the potential to repeat that fear factor today ... So, they love Snoop's position on this one, smh.

 ... really Gabrielle and Dwayne, it's about Nat Turner not yall.

Gabrielle Union on 'Birth of a Nation' Boycotts: ‘I Support You If You Don’t Want to See the Film’

If the reception to Birth of a Nation at the box office hasn't been quite what its creators hoped for, Gabrielle Union says she doesn't fault those who are choosing to boycott the film over Nate Parker's rape scandal. (The film's director and star was accused of raping a classmate at Penn State in 1999, but was acquitted of all charges.) In her new Essence cover story, Union explains why she's standing by anyone who sits the film out. "As a rape survivor and as an advocate, I cannot shy away from this responsibility because the conversation got difficult," Union writes. "I don’t want to put myself above anyone’s pain or triggers. Every victim or survivor, I believe you. I support you. I support you if you don’t want to see the film. I absolutely understand and respect that. I can’t sell the film" ...

Let's forget Snoop. Not that interesting.
I've always disliked slave movies, starting with Roots.

Why do you think it's relevant to see Nat Turners revolt, or any slave story on the big screen?
IMO, white folk could care less about Blacks seeing this movie.
Don't know how extensive this movie goes into Nat Turners Rebillion, but more slaves were killed due to this revolt, to white peoples satisfaction. As they watch these movies they already know the end. There was retribution for slave revolts.

(Turner escaped and remained free for nearly two months. In those two months though, the militia and white vigilantes instituted a reign of terror over slaves in the region. Hundreds of blacks were killed. White Virginians panicked over fears of a larger slave revolt and soon instituted more restrictive laws regulating slave life. Turner was eventually captured and hung.)

The Five Greatest Slave Rebellions in the United States | African - PBS

Stono Rebellion, 1739. The Stono Rebellion was the largest slave revolt ever staged in the 13 colonies. On Sunday, Sept. 9, 1739, a day free of labor, about 20 slaves under the leadership of a man named Jemmy provided whites with a painful lesson on the African desire for liberty. Many members of the group were seasoned soldiers, either from the Yamasee War or from their experience in their homes in Angola, where they were captured and sold, and had been trained in the use of weapons.
They gathered at the Stono River and raided a warehouse-like store, Hutchenson’s, executing the white owners and placing their victims’ heads on the store’s front steps for all to see. They moved on to other houses in the area, killing the occupants and burning the structures, marching through the colony toward St. Augustine, Fla., where under Spanish law, they would be free.

sense of superioty.
