    every time i read
    history’s version of mystory
    it
    cracks me up
    you know,
    the gutgripping kind
    that shoots pain like bullets ripping
    through your intestines, severing yourspine,
    leaving you giddyparalyzed
                     on the floor;
    the kind during which you laugh so hard
    your jaws hurt like the butts of
    rifles shattered bones and teeth,
    and all you can do is sit there
    on the sidewalk with
    painsilly looking faces,
    praying you at least can chew
    solid food when the swelling dies down

    i laugh so hard at history
            (sometimes)
    it feels like i am on fire-
                     gasoline lit-
               engulfing my whole body;
    laughing so hard that i quiver
    like a MississippiAlabama swamp
    on a chilling night,
    afraid that if i make one more sound, move one more inch
                   it will be the last
    that anyone hears or sees of me until
    they find my laughinggiddy bones
    (or not)

    history’s version of mystory
                  is(like)
    a comedy of errors, miscues,
    misdirects, each scene
                 laughable
    and largely lying quaintly white,
    leaving me hanging with cheekly
    tearsdangling, unripestrangely fruit
    bloodsalty and lifeless
