My skin is a ‘lil darker than some’s
And when I was little I shunned the sun
At night I cried to be out of this skin
I wanted to be in the colored light skin
I never got teased or prodded about my color
I was the only one that had a problem with its fervor
A few years years ago I had begun to appreciate my skin
But now I’m back in the same predicament that I was in
What's wrong with me bein’ a shade or two darker?
My ancestors adored this beauty marker
But now it seems like everyone is ashamed
To embrace their heritage and see that we aren’t the same
All these young boys I know want a “yellow girl”
That’s what they call them, and that makes my anger unfurl
And I just hate it when they tell me one small thing
They say that for a “dark girl” I’m finer than anything
But that sh*t just seems to hurt me more
Just because I’m dark, does that mean I can’t be adored?
Am I supposed to be some ugly piece of sh*t?
Because the world is saying that by the darker you get
My skin is a ‘lil darker than some’s
But I know my God still has all appreciation
Now I’m not hatin’ on my sisters that are light
Because I love ya’ll and embrace the beauty of our flight
Every african american sister is beautifully unique
And now that I’ve realized that, its time for the rest of you to see…

awwwww thanks u so much girl:)...this has just been on my mind for a while and i needed to write about it....i just get tired of people thinkin' that dark skinned people can't be pretty...its like when people see me they're surprised that i look half way decent or somethin' and that hurts....or even when i go out with my friends the guys will go after the lighter girls first...i hang out with my best friends and they are white and puerto rican...and they get the most the attention and the guys have told me to my face that they want a light colored girl or a white girl cuz most of the time they have less attitude than black girls and that they are mostly prettier...this gets to me alot, but i don't let people know that...anyway i have a man that loves me for my body, color, and EVERYTHING...so i'm very grateful for that...

    Hi Lovely,

This is a wonderful piece!! :toast:

I am fair skinned, and I love all my sisters. Color should not be an issue in the world today. We have so many other things to worry about. Don't we?

It is time for us to love one another and come together as one because we are all beauty and grace. Only as one will we be united and strong!!

Real beauty is who you are and how you carry yourself. And you do this very well!!

Don't worry about what others think of you. Their opinions don't mean a thing because you and your man know the truth; you are beauty and grace!!

By the way, I am not offended this is an important issue that you addressed so well.

    All my best to you!!

    ~Sierra~
