    “My Pain Rose”

my pain rose like that geyser at Yellowstone
    it was old and faithful
yet it leaped and spit and spewed
    all over…
    my pain rose
it rose like the dust rose
    from the World Trade Center
cementing thousands under clouds of anguish…
    my pain rose
with prickly thorns protecting its crimson beauty
it stung and hurt and maimed, it tortured
    it was old and faithful
    like that geyser
    hot and humid and cloying…
    my pain rose
    to greet me at sunrise
    issuing forth edicts
from the great State of Depression…
    it rose to full mast
like the flag over the Pentagon
    the day before September eleventh…
my pain rose early every daybreak
    needing no vacation
    gray and gloomy like fog
    it rose…
    my pain was a ventriloquist
using me like a wooden dummy
    to herald its preeminence…
    it rose from agony’s bowels
    a deep wound…
it rose like water rises seeking its own level…
it rose and bobbed its ugly head
like empty bottles on a stream…
it rose and lingered and stank
    like breath from stale beer…
my pain ached like a decayed bicuspid
    throbbing on jangled nerves…
    my pain rose
and has risen every morning like clockwork
since the day after you left me…

    Rose

This, this just took my breath. It brought me to the brink of tears, made a knot well up in my chest. You are a master of words. Thank you for sharing this, 7th.

Brother…What can I say, except…I’ve never known poetry the way I see it through your eyes
and feel it inside your words…You have taught me how to spell Poetry the correct way…

Seventh Poet = Poetry = Seventh Poet
And I could find seven ways to Sunday to say it…

Even though I felt the pain, after reading each line, I felt that I just had to get to the next one. Such a blessing to have you in this family.
