Today I had to attend a banquet for my mother with whom I don't have the best relationship with. It was requested that I bring words or a poem. I wracked my brains for what to say. But then I had looked back over my life and with tears in my eyes these are the words that I begin to pen:

My mother has always been a big part of who I am
As a young child, you reprimand us for some misdeed
Until you snapped, and then the tears would start.
"You know I love you," you would cry, demanding
Us to be live up to all that good home training you gave.
During school I could count on you to be class mom
Or that mother first in line to go on all the field trips
When I got an award I think you might of been prider than I
For in my corner you have always stood cheering me on to be the best
At graduation I could hear your “Thank you Lord” above the rest
College was no different because you were there no matter what
Although I was out of your sight to the man on high you lifted me up
And when I was finished, you again gave thanks to the Almighty
As an adult although I do not always follow the path that you might of choose
I realize how much you wish to save me from the hurts and trials of this life
My dear mother, though you may not always understand my actions or deeds
Please know in your heart and soul that you are very important to me
Regardless of the road I travel I always considered the lessons I learn from thee
And know that I respect your point of view even when its not path I choose to follow
I love you, Mother, and only hope that I can pass on to my seed what you have passed on to me

Dear Family please love your mother because she really may be doing the best she can

A very personal and emotional read. It is often poems like this that are the hardest to write, at least in my experience. Excellent job, poet!

Gee, that was quite touching. True, a mother doesn't want her child to hurt, even when they're grown . Hard to watch them fall, ever. I'm sure she was very proud to hear this piece.
