sometimes it goes on its merry
own way / leaving me here /
lonely...thinking about how
the blank day will be written upon
what impression will be made
upon the palette

sometimes it goes and visits
faraway lands...

running with the gazelle on the serengeti
walking the steps of the pyramids
or backstroking on the Nile
sipping ginger tea

sometimes it just goes and goes
and leaves me / lonely /
the it came back one day and told me
that it...

visited Fanon
entertained Ida B.
held the hand of Zipporah
while Moses was parting seas
danced to the sweet voice of Holliday
and had discussions with Langston,
Mr. Dubois, and Carter G.

sometimes it just goes and goes
and leaves me lonely/
the last time it came back it was beaten
battered and scarred
it told me that it listened to...

the cries of hungry children at night
as they prayed to a God they didn't understand
inhaled the last breath of mother floating
in the river of self-hate after killing herself
cause she couldn't feed those same children
the silence splintering sound of bullets
and the pillaging of more and more black boys
still trying to find a manhood...anywhere...
the off tuned chiming of prison bars and the footsteps
of futures fading behind stones barbed wire walls

sometimes my mind just goes and goes and goes...
...and...goes...and goes...leaving me here
thinking about when it will return

so if I don't call or email you
or post a little sumthin for you
it's because I'm thinking and trying to come
to terms with my mind...but YOU are always there.
