    i have this book

i have this book by my left hand
i have this phone number by my right
    the book is spiritual
the phone number is pure sin

    torn between right and wrong
i have this book by my left hand
i cracked the cover and heard that brand new sound
you know, when you get a new book
and it has that new book smell
and i know i should be reading it
glasses perched on the end of my nose
    w/a chain
yeah, a chain, like a librarian
or my mama when she wore her bifocals
and yelled at me and my sisters
and when she turned her back
    we'd be like....now claaaasssss!
    shaking our index fingers
    and laughing behind our hands
    hoping she didn't hear us
cause that would be our ***

    oh and on my right
    now that's sumthin' different
    cause on my right
    that's sumthin' young
    and sexy and hard working
    and muscular and new
    y'all know about new right
    i wanna crack his brain
like i wanna crack this book
i wanna see what's inside and see him smile
i like to look into his eyes
    those eyes that are slanted
just tellin' all about his family history
who slept w/who and the jet black braids
that go **** near down his back
    let's put it this way
    only his mama was black

    so i sit here torn
    between right and wrong
should i go on my spiritual journey
    sitting cross legged
    leaning on some comfortable pillows
looking down as the sun peeks through the clouds
and illuminates me about the after life?

or should i put the book on hold
wait til the sun goes down
    the beats start to thump
and the sinners come out to play
    high heels clicking on asphalt
with my cell phone turned to off
    just living a little longer
    in this present world
and what it has to offer

    my left hand....
    or my right....
