Science tells me that my eyes are for seeing
    My ears are for hearing
    My nose is for smelling
    My mouth is for tasting
And my hands are for feeling
But what science doesn't tell me is how my five senses are based on the community in which I live in

    I see projects and ghettos
While others see a home with a picket white fence
I see drug dealers and drug abusers
While others see nothing like this
    I see single parent homes
While other see two parents sitting in the park with their children reading books under an oak tree
    I see winos and acoholics
While others may see a little of this
They don't see more than me

I hear the cries of the children who need help
    Who want help
    I hear the I'm brokes
    I hear the I can'ts
And every now and then I hear an I can

    I smell the weed
    The cigars
    The cigarettes
I smell the symbols of sex
I smell the killing for silly stuff

    And tatse
I can taste the sense of style
    The style that everybody wears
But really don't have the money for it

    And feel
I can feel the opportunities slipping away from us
I can feel our community turning into ghettos
And our ghettos turning into nothing but another place that people are scared to visit
But who can blame them when we are scared to live there ourselves

So don't tell me we got the same five senses unless you been in my place
Cause we don't see, hear, smell, taste, or feel the same in any way.

Capturing in words what you have sensed in ways that others don't or won't. This was wonderfully posed. Welcome to destee, hope to read more from you.

wow, this really makes you think....It seems its saying we have senses but we use and see them differently...You haven't seen, heard, felt, smell,or taste what i have been through...so how can you say we have the same senses when we live in two different worlds?
