There are songs that we listened to as a youth that all we heard was the beat, and rarely paid attention to the words.

Then there are certain songs make you pause to wonder what they are saying or referring to.

    For instance, these are examples

Context was often understood, but I never really listened years ago when this came out to realize they were bragging about tagging (graffiti), and avoiding getting caught.

Who would write about tagging today?
But this just reminds me of how Hip Hop used to pay such homage to classic soul and jazz

    But here is another one

Michael Jackson's Human Nature was just another song, but before I really listened to the lyrics about 5 years ago I never really thought about what the song was about.

    [1st Verse]
    Looking Out
    Across The Night-Time
The City Winks A Sleepless Eye
    Hear Her Voice
    Shake My Window
    Sweet Seducing Sighs

    [2nd Verse]
    Get Me Out
    Into The Night-Time
Four Walls Won't Hold Me Tonight
    If This Town
    Is Just An Apple
Then Let Me Take A Bite

    [Chorus]
    If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way
    If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way

    [3rd Verse]
    Reaching Out
    To Touch A Stranger
    Electric Eyes Are Everywhere
    See That Girl
    She Knows I'm Watching
She Likes The Way I Stare

    [Chorus]
    If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way
    If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way
    I Like Livin' This Way
    I Like Lovin' This Way

    [4th Verse]
    Looking Out
    Across The Morning
The City's Heart Begins To Beat
    Reaching Out
    I Touch Her Shoulder
    I'm Dreaming Of The Street

    [Chorus]
    If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way
    If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way
    I Like Livin' This Way

    Question:

WHO IS "HE"? ("Why, Why, Does HE Do Me That Way")
And did anyone ever figure out why does he do them that way?

    Was it Human Nature?
And if so, what was this human nature?
Was HE referring to Human Nature?
And if not... WHO IS "HE"?

M.J. used so many darn metaphors it took the music industrial complex years before they realized he was coding messages into it.

Anyone have others (ambiguous songs and meanings)?

This piece actually made me open my eyes out of a near sleep (was about to be some good sleep too).

Was in constant rotation in the 90s, sometimes in the daytime, but more often during the evening.

Being so used to hearing the short radio version on the "Quiet Storm" late at night, for some reason they felt the need to switch it up and play the unedited album version:

Da heck was that around the 7 minute mark???
First time I heard it (20 or so years ago) there was no expectation other than dozing off into the midnight hours.

Since then, I often wondered what this song was about, given the title of the song, and the small snippet of something being murmured near the end.

Things that make you go "hmmmmm", or at least made me go "hmmmmm".
