i hate the mural arts program. it is run by an aggressive jewess.
all murals are done in poor black neighborhoods. there is not one mural in an upscale neighborhood.
white people are placed on tour buses and taken around the hood pointing at the art.
this women controls grant money that otherwise might go to actual black artists.
i hate her. i hate her program and i hate her murals.

it is not a good idea for white people to control the art of black people.
this is just like "the help" but with murals.

I think that is sad you had to remove them, oldsoul.

As a Philly resident, I think the Phila. Mural Arts Program has been a good thing. This program has employed youth artists that I know personally, who had no outlet for their energies besides graffitti and other acts. They have beautified walls that were just barren bricks. Parents, children and others look at these with a sense of pride and encouragement.

Please disregard the negative. These people are paid salary, many of them are teens. Many former black gang members and officials have sat on its board. It employs members of our community and allows community input on the style and content of the murals posted. I know people who have been at their assessment meetings.

Now we have to passionately defeat the very factors that help beautify neighborhoods, give a glimmer of hope, offer employment because someone doesnt like the race/religion of the funder?

The most amazing part is that none of these murals get tagged with graffitti.

I chose to clear the post because I agree with jamesfrmphilly that Black art should not be controlled by white people. Once I learned that the program is not Black owned or run by Black People, I could not promote it. While it may be true that some Black people get a little money through the program, I will bet money that some white folks are getting a great deal more out of it. Thats the way the game works. I dont hate on white people but I try not to support them in exploiting us.

The Mural Arts Program recieves funding from the Phila. Dept. of Recreation and grants. Tax payer monies and grants. It is a public/private non-profit intiative between the city, donors and grants.

MAP is currently one of Philadelphia's largest employers of artists, employing over 300 artists a year. Currently MAP employs 36 former graffiti artists as staff members on permanent payroll and services over 300 children a year in their arts programs.

I think someone has tainted the thread with falsehoods. So we are to disregard the few jobs for inner city parents, youth, ex-offenders because of someone who has never been involved or sought out the program to get the facts?

I know this is an unpopular view here...but white people profit from our labor on a daily basis. We know they receive an unequal share. That's capitalism. Im just being realistic. Not happy with that fact, but its true.

Maybe some of us better not go to work tomorrow, those who do work. Cause there are plenty of tax-payer/grant funded entities and corporations we patronize that wont even hire us or our youth. Including the very internet where we are transmitting these messages......at least this organization does.

    Amazing.

http://muralarts.org/node/48. The Board of Directors, which includes AA financiers, adminstrators (Dr.Evans, who I know personally and Councilman Evans), professionals and community activists.

Give me a name, James. PEW grants are received by many artists, doesnt mean they are involved with this program.

And if they are, are you against jobs in the black community?
