In the Spirit of The Champion,

Muhammad Ali, a hero of our time

This weekend, the Muhammad Ali Center awarded football great and courageous civil rights advocate Jim Brown and Bill Russell its Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award. But the real celebration was for Muhammad Ali himself, a giant now weakened by his three-decade struggle with Parkinson’s.

Ali was a champion in the ring. “I am the greatest,” he said, and he was telling the truth.

A few years back he, Frazier, Holmes, and Norton was on the Phil Donahue show and he made a good point about his condition. The word was/is that his profession is the cause of his illness, and the point he made was if that is the case, how do you explain why people have it that never boxed in their life? IMO, he destroyed that theory with that observation. What other fighter in modern times generated that much excitement?

His rhymes were being spouted but just about everyone in the hood.....Float like a butterfly got woe da hell out:lol:

    Peace!

To your question, there has been no other that has generated as much excitement as the Champ has, he is the Greatest of All Times ... Ali has certainly floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee, lol, rumble young man rumble ... No wonder he won his case against the U. S. Government.

    As Salaam Alaikum!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What made Muhammad Ali Great? Haven't seen anyone really deal with the issue and His teacher The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad for without him there would not have been a Muhammad Ali just another black boxer.

    Tru dat butha Clyde.

It is that type of conviction that I think many of todays athletes lack today. He was willing to risk it call to stand for what he believed in, and his pride as a black man. Donahue said that there are people that condemn what you do, and how you make money from the sport. Ali told the truth, he said "because blacks control boxing". Every since Jack Johnson whupped up on their best, they have been trying to regain and dominate that spot at the top.

Have you seen Unforgivable Blackness? Jack was a badddd man... But it also shows you the lengths white went to keep them at the top.

Here is that episode of Phil.

    Peace!

I think he still would have been great, Just without the religion. Lets not forget, these same folks also stole his money, and hung him out just to protect themselves.

    Peace!

He may have been a good Boxer but you would not be calling him a Hero without the Teaching and Guidance from the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. And as far as the money goes Elijah Muhammad had no part in that.

I agree with you, more so on the first point than the second. His son stole it, but he helped in protecting his son from retribution, so he is not without blame.

    But overall...I agree with you.

    Peace!

    ...

Thanks for that video bro. Enki, I really enjoyed it. Yep, Ali was always quick of mind. But lets not forget Bundini Brown, Ali's right hand man ...

Bundini talks about Muhammad Ali (The Greatest)
