It was a good movie but I wish the ending was better or at least made a sequel more obvious.
Of course, the biggest thing (white) people are talking(crying) about is the simple fact that race was brought into it because the daughter said that trust should not be given so easily in a situation like this. And she says "especially white people".
But this just illustrates how clueless so many white people are about racial issues. Clueless, not because they're all equally racist but because they're so ignorant when it comes to their own history or how racist other white people are that it doesn't even occur to them that trusting them based on color would be a problem. And no, it's not just "any color". It's specifically "don't trust the people who invented race in the first place to have an advantage at survival even when the world isn't coming to an end. We're talking about people who use their race against others on a regular basis. We even came up with the name Karen to accurately describe that kind of overt behavior.
And there are exceptions. My coworker who is white completely understands not trusting white people. But she's different because she knows more about race and racial history and issues than the average white person. And she's not afraid to ask me questions to get better informed. Other white people don't typically do that because they either don't care or they're happy with the status quo running in their favor.
But yes, it's true. Marginalized groups are experts in the ways in which they are marginalized. Oppressed groups have every reason and motive to understand the whys and hows of their oppression. But the ones doing it? The ones who simply exist on the same "team" as the oppressors? What they don't understand is that it is their (White) privilege that allows them to be ignorant. And it is that ignorance that they're speaking out of when they're crying about race being brought up. These geniuses actually think their ignorance is a good thing and that racism will go away if they ignore it. But again... even thinking this might work is a LUXURY that black people don't and cannot afford to have.
So in an actual zombie apocalypse, not one written for TV, the reality is that race will definitely play a role in how people cooperate with each other for survival. We're just more honest about it.
