Each morning I meet the dawn
The rail of a treated wood deck my alter
Eyes wide-open to an ever brightening sun
A slight chill runs through me
As the eastern wind washes my face
    I pray

    Prayers of thanks
    Prayers of forgiveness
    Prayers I will be forgiven
With each breath of his air
    My prayers are heard
    This I know

    Confirmed by his creatures
Robins and bluejays who land softly
    Unafraid of my human-ness
    Joining me in prayer
They know the value of life
Which is tested everyday to survive

Much is heard in the silence of morning
The hopes and dreams of parents
    The cries of babies
    The cries of lovers
    The laughter of children

    Early morning
    When the earth is clean
    Prayers become the motivation
    The inspiration
    For me to be
Who I woke up to be
In the early morning of my prayers
