MORE THAN A POET

I am… no longer just a poet
No longer just a writer
I have become more…
More, than the author of words
That I write,
That I express,
On paper.
I have entered
Into the state
Where I am no longer just writing my thoughts
I am no longer just writing about things for which I dream to occur.
I am no longer just writing for things I regret
No,
In turn,
I have begun to write myself.
I didn’t know that it was possible,
Until it was.
My life
My heart
My faith
Started to enter
My words.
Without being aware,
I created myself into a poetic language
That could be put on paper.
That could be expressed so simply,
And so clearly.
I was transformed into a spirit
That allowed itself to become written thoughts
Allowed itself to be free.
It’s as if through my pen,
I was preserving myself
Preserving my legacy
For all to know and understand
Me.
It came to the point where,
when I read my thoughts
I was reading me.
When I look at all I have written
I was seeing me.
I was confused at first
Confused about where this would take me
But it has transformed me into a deeper version
Of who I am
And it has opened up boundaries
Boundaries that had prevented me from knowing who I will be.
And from letting go of the person I was.
I thank God every day for blessing me with this gift
Because,
Now,
My soul is entangled with my words.
I have evolved into what I write down
My writing replaces my reflection
My writing is the improved me.
