    Mommy
    She came with nappiness
Not a thing to do with her hair
    Just a generational invitational
For some mother daughter time to share
    Mommy
    She brought the hair grease
    I supplied the comb
Which she accused me of taking
The last time I was at her home
    Mommy
    Her hair nappier than mine
Not to say mine is nappiless
    Just got a different kind
    Mommy
    Her hips spread bearing birth
    Curved like mountain streams
    Skin tone of mother Earth
    Exposing Afro centric dreams
    Mommy
Neck long and royal in stature
    Full lips and widened nose
    Ancestry of ancient Africa
    Black beautiful eye behold
    Mommy
    Mother tongue her tribal language
Life has taught her to respect
    She speaks from lessons learned
    Wisdom the dialect
    Mommy
    Silver, turquoise, cowrie shells
    Amber stones adorn her well
As if she stood on motherland shores
    Indigenous you could not tell
    Mommy
    She came with nappiness
Not a thing to do with her hair
    Just a generational invitational
For some mother daughter time to share
I look at her and see I Queen
    Her hair nappier than mine
    Not to say I’m nappiless
    Just got a different kind
    Mommy

    I always hear you

in surround-sound, sista Roxanne! Thank you for the "generational invitational" to spend quality sista/sista time amongst the naps..."not a thing to do with....hair".

    Say that!

    there is no

better way to learn of your history, than through the wisdom of a mommas love and through her eyes...bringing past and present together...

    a nice piece...
